The Vibe

Globe is quaint and cozy, featuring soaring ceilings over the downstairs bar and dining area and a large loft space that is available for groups and also just as additional seating for the restaurant. The shelves along the right wall are unique and give the space depth and an interesting dynamic. Globe also features an outdoor patio space directly on Boylston Street during the warmer months, making it the perfect location to hang out during the Bruins’ next championship parade or the Boston Marathon (just past the finish line)!

The bar is long and not too tightly packed. The bartenders are always super friendly and there always seems to be a plethora of servers around. If you head in during the late afternoon/early evening hours, take advantage of the half-priced apps. Lunch specials include soup and sandwich, etc. and ALWAYS upgrade to the waffle fries (see our picture below)!  If you go soon, don’t be surprised to see some Occupy protesters nearby….there’s a community church upstairs that tends to bring in that crowd – it is in no way associated with Globe.

The Drinks

Valerie’s Drink of Choice: New World Sangria  
Ingredients:  Crane Lake Cabernet, Five Rivers Pinot Noir, Captain Morgan Spiced Rum, Triple Sec, Lemon Juice, orange juice, fresh fruit
Cost: $10.00

Review: Sangria with two kinds of wine and Captain Morgan…aka a beautiful mixing of two of my favorite things…OK, count me in! This sangria was yummy and a bit different than the usual wine and brandy or vodka medleys – you could definitely taste the Captain, which was great.  The only complaint that I had was that the orange juice flavor was a bit much, and maybe they were using OJ with pulp as the texture seemed like it.  Cut back a bit on the orange and this would be perfect!  Also, the size was great for the cost, and with the four different kinds of alcohol, left me feeling a bit buzzed!

Eric’s Drink of Choice: Fire on Ice  
Ingredients: Fireball Red Hot Cinnamon Whiskey on the rocks
Cost: $7.00

Review: Okay, so it’s not a cocktail, but it’s still delicious. I couldn’t resist the Fire on Ice when I saw it on the menu. This is a cold fireside beverage for when the fire is just burning too hot! The first sip was chilly and smooth, but the aftertaste reminded me of eating Red Hots at the movies.  Valerie said it reminded her of Goldschlager, which then gave her a bad memory of a college trip to Montreal…I was surprised she even tried it!  The taste of cinnamon overwhelms the whiskey flavor one would expect when enjoying the drink, and the strong pour made sure going out into the cold wasn’t as bad as it could have been. Surprisingly, this straight whiskey tastes more like a cocktail than that of a whiskey, which made it the perfect way to enjoy the afternoon of New Year’s Eve.

The Stats

Wine Prices: Eight white wines available by the glass for $7 and $8 a glass and $24 to $50 a bottle. Fourteen red wines also on the menu for $8 to $12 per glass and $24 to $50 per bottle.

Beer Prices: Ten draft and twenty eight bottled beers are offered (including a few varieties of Magners Cider).  Unfortunately, no prices were listed on the menu.

Other:  Globe was offering 9 cocktails when we were in there, including two hot drinks (Hot Toddy and a Nutty Irishmen) all for $8 to $10.  Other options included a Candy Cane Martini, Pomegranate Poinsettia, and Palmer’s Twist.  It’s apparent that their mixed drink menu changes seasonally, we we’re excited to go back when there’s new options!

Also…they have AMAZING waffle fries!
